On February 6, National Signing Day, nine Central High athletes signed with their respective colleges amid cheers from their friends, families, teachers, and coaches in the East PAC.
Among this accomplished group of athletes was Pag Meter’s Player of the Year Trent Tompkins who earned a total of 65 touchdowns and over 5,000 passing yards during his senior year. Trent signed his letter of intent to attend the University of California, Davis. Tompkins took the podium to explain why he chose UC Davis stating, “ I chose UC Davis over every school because it was the best opportunity for me and the coaching staff is absolutely amazing.”
Two of Tompkin’s teammates joined him on stage to sign with their chosen university. Central football’s WR/S Tyrell Grayson committed to the University of Dixie State with over 5 touchdowns and 56 tackles this season and RB Austin Bebout signed his letter of intent with Greenville University, Illinois. Austin garnered a scholarship despite sitting out of his senior year due to a shoulder injury.
Track and field athlete Daveion Robinson chose to stay closer to home, signing with California State University, Fresno. Daveion placed first last season in the 800-meter race at the Central Dual.
Jayla Green is heading up North as she will be playing basketball at the University of CSU Stanislaus. Green led Central to a 5th seed all the way the semifinal in this year Valley playoffs.
Four volleyball players also signed their letter of intent including Makayla Lewis, who will be playing at San Jose State, Angie Cabal who is heading to Dominguez Hills, Bailey Combs who will attend the University of Central Oklahoma, and Amethyst Harper who will be going to the University of Montana. All four of these athletes led this year’s Central girl volleyball team to Valley championship games.
