Danzantes de Tlàloc’s Winter Wonderland in Mexico show, directed by folklorico teacher Rosa Gonzalez, is this Saturday, December 8th, at the historic Warnors Theater in downtown Fresno. Students from every level of Central’s folklorico program are performing in the show for family and friends, but the award-winning, renowned advanced troupe’s performances draw an audience from all over the Valley. The event will run from 7 p.m-9 p.m. Tickets are available in room 301 at East and room 701 at West. Pre-sale tickets are $12 and $16 at the door. They are also available online here and at Arte Americas.

Every year, performances feature dances and costumes from different periods and regions. “We will feature dances from the states of Guanajuato, Sinaloa, Hidalgo, Coahuila, Yucatan, Chihuahua, and Zacatecas,” stated Ms. Gonzalez. The winter show is always a showcase event featuring elaborate dances, music, and costumes from diverse periods and regions, but Gonzalez says she strives to create an entirely new performance each year, ensuring return audiences will experience something unique.  There will also be a raffle where the audience can win prizes donated by sponsors.

Past attendees say it’s more than just an enjoyable night for those who love the art of dance. Audience members learn a little bit more about the traditions of Mexico.

This annual show gives beginning to advanced students the opportunity to show off what they’ve learned as well. Students dedicate the show to their family members in the audience each year. Senior and folklorico officer Jacqueline De La Torrez states, “I like that we all come together to put on a show for our friends and families. We get so much support.”
