The Central Grizzlies are coming off the best season in their school’s history and are looking just as formidable now after a 75 – 7 win against the Clovis West last Friday. Central started off strong scoring 51 points during the first half and finished the Eagles with another 24 points in the third quarter.

Last year, Central won a valley championship and went undefeated in conference play. The Grizzlies could do the same this year as they are off to a strong start with a record of 9-0 and 4-0 in Trac Play. Central has already chalked up some impressive wins against the Turlock Bulldogs on homecoming night and against the  Buchanan Bears, the 2nd best team in the Valley.

The Central offense is led by senior QB Trent Tompkins who has thrown for over 3,000 yards and 44 touchdowns. Tompkins is 2th in the state for passing yards. All Trent does is get better every day. “This year I would just like to improve in every aspect of the game and try to be the best leader I can for my team,” Tompkins said. Central has one of the most forceful offenses in the Valley and one of the most skilled wide receivers in Jeremiah Hunter who has 56 catches for 829 yards and 19 touchdowns. Hunter has scored a touchdown in every game so far and continues to show everyone why he is considered one of the best.

While Central’s offense has received its share of accolades, it’s powerful defensive line may be one of the most underrated, even after rising to the top with 37 sacks and 8 interceptions. After only allowing 10 points in the first quarter this season through the first 9 games, they deserve their share of this seasons credit. The Central defense is led by senior Corner Silas Proby and senior safety Noah Gonzales who both have combined for over 61 tackles and 3 interceptions. Central defense is slowly, but surely making a name for itself.

The Grizzlies are now in conference play (TRAC) and will look to go 5-0 in TRAC play. It all kicks off with Central’s Thursday night game versus the Clovis East Timberwolves who will face the Grizzlies with a 4 – 5 record.
