Central Grizzlies track and field team is coming off a very successful CIF-CS Masters meet where the girls’ team placed 3rd overall and the boys placed 7th. We have seven different girls and one boy who qualified for the CIF State meet on June 1st – 2nd. Outcomes look good as these athletes forge towards greater competitive levels.

Daveion Robinson, junior, is ranked 1st in the Valley and 8th in the state of California with a personal record of 55.52 in the 400m run. She is a member of the 4x100m relay team that placed 1st in Valley with a time of 47.95 and is considered to be the “best anchor in the Valley”, according to Dye Stat Runners Space. “I just do it for my team; I don’t really run for myself anymore,” Daveion states. She is also a part of the 4x400m relay. The team went on to break the school record time with a time of 3:50.85 and placed 1st in the Valley.

Sophie Jimenez, a senior, a runner of the 800m race at the CIF-CS Masters meet, placed 2nd with a time of 2:15.03. Earlier in the season she competed in the 400m run as well with a personal record of 57.69 and ranked 5th in the Central Section. Sophie is currently a member of the 4×100 m and 4×400 m relay teams that are ranked top ten in the Valley.

Kyler Van Grouw, a sophomore, throws a discus weighing 1.6kg at 181’2 feet. He is 2nd in Valley and 9th in the state for this event after the CIF-CS Masters meet. Kyler is also ranked 3rd in the nation for the sophomore grade level.

Sophomore Monea Jennings is a competitor in the 100 m hurdles and the 300m hurdles. For the 100m hurdles, she has a time of 14.78 which placed her 4th in the Central Section. In the 300m hurdles Monea is now 6th in Valley with a 45.42 time after the CIF-CS Masters meet. Also, she is a part of the 4×400 m relay.

Simone Johnson, sophomore, competes for the Grizzlies in long jump and triple jump. Going into the CIF-CS Masters meet with an ankle injury, Simone did not let it weaken her confidence. “I went in with the mindset of a winner and that’s how I came out.” In triple jump, she jumped 39-00.50 feet placing 1st in the Central Section. For long jump, she is 5th in the valley and jumped 17-10.75 feet. Simone is a member as well of the 4×100 m relay team.
